My Little Cousin
My little cousin is only ten, but he knows more than any students in his grade.
He likes computer games and he is crazy about music. When he is free, he always listens to music. He likes many kinds of music, like country music, pop music, jazz and classical music.
He hates noise, when it is very noisy, he will be very angry and shout until people become quiet. So of course, he doesn’t like public places.
One day, I went shopping with him. On our way we saw a beggar. He thought the beggar was a drunk, and he wanted to tell him not to drink too much wine. But I told him that he was a beggar, he is very poor. To my surprise, he came in front of the beggar and gave him $5. Isn’t he kind?
He is like his father. They are both very kind and friendly, and a little funny. They both have big eyes and little mouth.
Although he is ten, his room is full of toy planes and toy buses.
This is my little cousin. Is he lovely?

英語作文 篇4
scanning the brains of people in love is also helping to refine science's grasp of love's various forms. helen fisher, a researcher at rutgers university, and the author of a new book on love*, suggests it comes in three flavours: lust, romantic love and long-term attachment. there is some overlap but, in essence, these are separate phenomena, with their own emotional and motivational systems, and accompanying chemicals. these systems have evolved to enable, respectively, mating, pair-bonding and parenting.
lust, of course, involves a craving for sex. jim pfaus, a psychologist at concordia university, in montreal, says the aftermath of lustful sex is similar to the state induced by taking opiates. a heady mix of chemical changes occurs, including increases in the levels of serotonin, oxytocin, vasopressin and endogenous opioids (the body's natural equivalent of heroin). “this may serve many functions, to relax the body, induce pleasure and satiety, and perhaps induce bonding to the very features that one has just experienced all this with”, says dr pfaus.
then there is attraction, or the state of being in love (what is sometimes known as romantic or obsessive love). this is a refinement of mere lust that allows people to home in on a particular mate. this state is characterised by feelings of exhilaration, and intrusive, obsessive thoughts about the object of one's affection. some researchers suggest this mental state might share neurochemical characteristics with the manic phase of manic depression. dr fisher's work, however, suggests that the actual behavioural patterns of those in love—such as attempting to evoke reciprocal responses in one's loved one—resemble obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd).that raises the question of whether it is possible to “treat” this romantic state clinically, as can be done with ocd. the parents of any love-besotted teenager might want to know the answer to that. dr fisher suggests it might, indeed, be possible to inhibit feelings of romantic love, but only at its early stages. ocd is characterised by low levels of a chemical called serotonin. drugs such as prozac work by keeping serotonin hanging around in the brain for longer than normal, so they might stave off romantic feelings. (this also means that people taking anti-depressants may be jeopardising their ability to fall in love.) but once romantic love begins in earnest, it is one of the strongest drives on earth. dr fisher says it seems to be more powerful than hunger. a little serotonin would be unlikely to stifle it.wonderful though it is, romantic love is unstable—not a good basis for child-rearing. but the final stage of love, long-term attachment, allows parents to co-operate in raising children. this state, says dr fisher, is characterised by feelings of calm, security, social comfort and emotional union.
英語作文 篇5
After I get my degree, I plan to start a business. My goal is to make money, a lot of money. However, I can’t forget that there are more important things in life than earning a profit. I must consider the people I work with, the customers I serve, and the community I live in.
My colleagues are a very important part of my business. Without them, I would not have a business. I depend on them to help me carry on the day-to-day operations. I depend on them for their advice on what to sell and how to sell it. I must compensate them for their work. I can’t take large profits without sharing with the people who made it responsible.
Similarly, I would not have a business without my customers. I can never forget that they could take their business elsewhere. I must give them good value for their money. I can’t overcharge them. I must also remember that money is as important to them as it is to me. I want my customers to trust me and keep coming back.
My employees and I all live in the same community as our customers. We are apart of the social life of our community. We can’t ignore it. We must play an active part in it. I feel it is important that some of the profits my business earns from the community be returned to the community. We need to support community programs like summer jobs for high school students, campaigns to clean up the parks, and efforts to make the shopping area more attractive.
A business must make profits, but we all—workers, customers, community—must profit from a successful business.

英語作文 篇7
I prefer sleeping late and staying up late at night. This routine fits my body’s rhythm, my work schedule, and my social life.
I believe in following my body’s natural rhythm. My body tells me to sleep until I am ready to get up and go to bed when I am sleepy. This means I never get up early in the morning. My body tells me it likes me to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep a day.
Sleeping late also fits my work schedule. Actually I don’t have that much work to do. I can easily finish my work between lunch and dinner. I think that if one works too much, there is not enough time left to enjoy one’s self.
My active social life is another reason I prefer to sleep late. Who gets up early in the morning to have fun? No one. Anything amusing, such as concerts, dances, parties, dinners, all happen at night. If I got up early in the morning, I would be too tired to enjoy myself in the evening.
I will maintain this pattern forever I hope. I think it is always important to listen to your body and if your body tells you to stay in bed, you should listen to it. By listening to you body, you will never let work interfere with your social life.
英語作文 篇8
Some people think that children from only-child families have more merits than shortcomings. Firstly, they value free will and will not accept orders blindly. Secondly, they love trying out new methods and are full of creative ideas. Thirdly, they have a thirst for upgrading their knowledge. Lastly, they expect others to treat them as indispensable partners of the team.
However, some people believe that the only children have more shortcomings than merits. For example, many show much dependence on parents. And some never learn to do elementary household chores. It is even worse that most tend to be spoiled, irrational and self-centered. They are "the little emperors" in families and schools.
According to my understanding, their merits and shortcomings are equally "eyecatching". Commenting on the only children is a science and an art as well. Their progress should be reviewed. School, family and society must give them room to use their creativity, skills and ideas. Remember, don't lavish them with too much concern and material goods, or "the little emperors" today will not be their own masters tomorrow.
