四六級：考場上那些用濫了的詞，該如何替換？

不管是英文還是漢語,最常用的基礎用詞都是翻來覆去的那些。漢語里修飾形容用的千篇一律會被嘲笑詞匯貧乏,英語考試中自然會有一樣的通病。當你和眾人一樣翻來覆去只會使用那么幾個基礎詞匯的時候,閱卷老師也會因為用詞的大同小異而感到審美疲勞,這種時候還如何脫穎而出得高分呢?所以,拋棄那些千篇一律的用法,嘗試用這些新詞匯來替代吧!

1. 支持(support)

advocate

We advocate solving international dispute by negotiation, instead of appealing to arms。

我們主張通過協(xié)商解決國際爭端,而不主張訴諸武力。

argue for

Do directors see new risks that argue for a different approach?

董事們有沒有看到可能支持不同做法的新風險?

in favour of

The majority voted in favor of the proposal。

多數(shù)人投票贊成這項提案。

2. 反對(object)

argue against

Three considerations argue against increasing fee。

三種理由反對增加費用。

be opposed to

Mr Clarke has shown himself to be resolutely opposed to compromise。

克拉克先生已表示自己堅決反對妥協(xié)。

frown on

He would frown on such aproposal。

他不會贊成這樣的建議。

3. 許多(many)

numerous

Numerous factories have sprung up in this once desolate area。

過去這一帶滿目蒼涼,現(xiàn)在卻有了無數(shù)的工廠。

a host of

The special theory of relativity has raised a host of questions。

狹義相對論引出了許多問題。

a multitude of

I was awed by the multitude of stars in the night sky。

4. 不同的(different)

various

These data have been collected from various sources。

這些數(shù)據(jù)是從各方面搜集來的。

a variety of

A variety of heavy industries grew up alongside the port。

各種重工業(yè)沿著港口逐漸發(fā)展起來。

diverse

People hold diverse attitudes toward these new regulations。

人們對于這些新規(guī)定抱有不同的態(tài)度。

5. 普遍的(common)

commonplace

Yet on the most commonplace occasion I can never know your thoughts.

然而即便在最普通的場合我也琢摸不透你的心思。

universal

Such problems are a universal feature of senior citizens。

這類問題是老年人的通病。

pervasive

It is the most pervasive compound on earth。

它是地球上最普遍的化合物。
