2018考研英語必備：高頻詞根（三）
很多同學提到記單詞就頭疼,感覺單詞總也背不完、記不會,實際上英文的構詞與中文的偏旁部首有著異曲同工之妙,要想快速牢固記憶,就要學會利用詞根、詞綴知識來解構單詞,從而在理解中分析單詞、記憶單詞。掌握相應的詞根、詞綴和單詞構成知識,就可以以一帶十,用四兩撥千金的“巧力”記住海量單詞。
基于考研英語的大綱詞匯及高頻詞匯,為了提高各位同學的英語詞匯記憶效率,請同學們率先從以下詞根串聯起的必考詞匯入手學習,從而使自己的詞匯學習由多變少,由生變熟,由難變易,使學習英語單詞成為一種樂趣、一種富有成就感的事情。
詞根:gress = go, walk
1. progressive
助記:pro(向前)+ gress(行走)+ ive(…的)→向前走的→前進的
釋義:a. 前進的,進步的
舉例:
That famous progressive thinker was asked to deliver a speech at the meeting.
那位著名的進步思想家被邀請在會議上發表演講。
2. retrogress
助記:retro(向后)+ gress(行走)→向后走→倒退
釋義:v. 退步,倒退
舉例:
At present the moral belief crisis is the co-existence of expansibility crisis and the retrogress crisis.
當前道德信仰危機是發展性危機與倒退性危機并存。
3. aggress
助記:ag(加強)+ gress(行走)→走過界→侵犯
釋義:v. 攻擊,侵犯
舉例:
Come here, I never aggress others.
來吧,我從不侵犯他人。
4. egress
助記:e(出)+ gress(行走)→走出去→外出
釋義:n. 出口,外出
舉例:
The secured area should meet all life safety code egress requirements.
受保護區域要滿足所有的生命安全法規對出口的要求。
5. ingress
助記:in(向內)+ gress(行走)→走進去→進入
釋義:n. 入口處,進入
舉例:
There are several gates providing ingress to the meadow in this picture.
在這張畫上有幾個進入草地的籬笆門。
6. transgress
助記:trans(橫)+ gress(行走)→橫著走→侵犯
釋義:v. 違反,犯罪,侵犯,越界
舉例:
It seemed to me that he had transgressed the boundaries of good taste.
對我來說,他的行為不上檔次。
7. digress
助記:di(分開)+ gress(行走)→分開走→走開→離題
釋義:v. 離題
舉例:
I've digressed a little to explain the situation so far, so let me now recap.
我剛才稍微離題說明了迄今的情況,現在讓我重述一下要點。
8. regress
助記:re(重新)+ gress(行走)→重新走→回歸
釋義:n. 退回,回歸;v. 復原,使倒退
舉例:
If your child regresses to babyish behavior, all you know for certain is that the child is under stress.
如果你的孩子退步到幼稚的行為,你可以肯定的是孩子正處在壓力之下。
詞根:nomin = name 名
1. nominal
助記:nomin(名字)+ al(…的)→名字的→名義上的
釋義:a. 名義上的,有名無實的
舉例:
He is only the nominal head of the country.
他只是那個國家名義上的元首。
2. nominate
助記:nomin(名字)+ ate(使…)→使榜上有名→提名
釋義:v. 提名,推薦,任命,命名
舉例:
I was nominated to the Research & Development department.
我被指派到研發部門工作。
3. nominator
助記:nomin(命名)+ ator(…者)→命名者→提名者
釋義:n. 提名者,任命者
舉例:
Nominator should have got the nominee's consent before making the nomination.
提名人在做出提名前,必須得到獲提名人士的同意。
4. nominee
助記:nomin(命名)+ ee(被…者)→被命名者→被提名者
釋義:n. 被提名者,被任命者
舉例:
The Director is awaiting the Board's affirmation of his nominee.
董事長在等待董事會批準他提名的候選人。
5. innominate
助記:in(無)+ nomin(名)+ ate(使…)→使無名的→匿名的
釋義:a. 匿名的,無名的
舉例:
Without clear and definite laws, it's usually hard to judge the validity of innominate contracts.
無名合同沒有明確的法律規制,因此在效力認定問題上存在困難。
詞根:fin = limit 結束,限制
1. final
助記:fin(終,極)+ al(…的)→終極的→最終的
釋義:a. 最后的,最終的,決定性的
舉例:
You must have been on stage until the final curtain.
你肯定是在臺上一直待到終場。
2. confine
助記:con(加強)+ fin(范圍)+ e →給出范圍→限制
釋義:v. 限制;n. 界限,邊界
舉例:
Let us not confine all our thoughts to the pretty occurrences of the day.
我們不要把所有的注意力都局限在那天發生的微不足道的事情上。
3. define
助記:de(加強)+ fin(范圍)+ e →使有范圍→給…下定義,限定
釋義:v. 定義,詳細說明
舉例:
It is hard for us to define those abstract items.
我們很難給那些抽象的事物下定義。
4. infinite
助記:in(無)+ fin(范圍)+ ite(…的)→沒有范圍的→無限的
釋義:a. 無窮的,無限的
舉例:
The infinite of the space is still a mystery to us human beings.
無限的太空對我們人類來說仍是個謎。
詞根:mis, mit = 投,發,送
1. dismiss
助記:dis(消失掉)+ miss(送,放出)→放掉→解散
釋義:v. 解散,開除,罷免
舉例:
If you are late again, you will be dismissed.
如果你再遲到,你將被解雇。
2. permission
助記:per(始終,全部)+ miss(送,投,發)→始終發放→許可
釋義:n. 允許,許可
舉例:
You must ask permission if you want to leave early.
如果你想早走的話,必須得到允許。
3. promise
助記:pro(前,向前,前面)+ miss(送,投,發)→前面發出的話→承諾
釋義:n./v. 承諾,答應
舉例:
I don't trust his promise to come for a visit.
我不相信他會如約前來訪問。
4. compromise
助記:com(共同)+ promise(承諾,答應)→互相答應→妥協
釋義:n./v. 妥協,折衷
舉例:
I think we'd better reach a compromise.
我認為我們最好相互讓步。
5. submit
助記:sub(下面的)+ mit(發出)→從下面發出→提交
釋義:v. 聽從,屈服,提交,呈送
舉例:
We will submit ourselves to the court's judgment.
我們服從法庭的判決。
6. transmit
助記:trans(轉移)+ mit(送,發出)→讓信號穿過空間→發射
釋義:v. 傳播,發射,傳送,傳導
舉例:
This infection is transmitted by mosquitoes.
這種傳染病是由蚊子傳播的。
7. admit
助記:ad(加強意義)+ mit(送,發出)→一再送出→容許
釋義:v. 接納,承認,容許
舉例:
We have to admit that there is still room for improvement.
我們不得不承認,在這方面有尚待改進的地方。
8. commit
助記:com(加強)+ mit(送)→送交→提交
釋義:v. 犯(錯誤,罪),委托,提交
舉例:
They committed outrages on innocent citizens.
他們對無辜的市民犯下了暴行。
詞根:pel = push 推
1. compel
助記:com(加強)+ pel(推,驅使)→一再驅使→強迫
釋義:v. 強迫,迫使
舉例:
Nothing can compel me to do such a thing.
沒有什么可以強迫我做這件事。
2. expel
助記:ex(出)+ pel(推,驅使)→推出→驅逐
釋義:v. 驅逐,開除,排除,發射
舉例:
Russia has lately decided to expel a US diplomat from its land.
俄國最近驅逐了一名美國外交官。
3. impel
助記:im(在…內)+ pel(推,驅使)→內在推動→激勵
釋義:v. 推動,推進,激勵,驅使,逼迫
舉例:
He felt impelled to investigate further.
他覺得有必要進一步調查。
4. propel
助記:pro(向前)+ pel(推,驅使)→向前推→推進
釋義:v. 推進,驅使
舉例:
The tiny rocket is attached to the spacecraft and is designed to propel it toward Mars.
微型火箭附在宇宙飛船上,用來推進飛船飛向火星。
5. repel
助記:re(反)+ pel(推,驅使)→向反方向推→擊退
釋義:v. 擊退,抵制,使厭惡
舉例:
They have fifty thousand troops along the border ready to repel any attack.
他們沿邊界有5萬軍隊,隨時準備擊退任何進攻。
詞根:flu = flow 流動
1. fluctuate
助記:flu(流)+ ctuate →波動,起伏
釋義:v. 變動,(使)波動,漲落,(使)起伏
舉例:
Body temperature can fluctuate if you are ill.
人患病后體溫可能會上下波動。
2. influent
助記:in(向內)+ flu(流)+ ent →向內流→流入的
釋義:a. 流入的;n. 支流
舉例:
Meanwhile, the sludge volume index would also increase with the increasing of influent flow distribution coefficient.
同時污泥體積指數也會隨著進水流量分配系數的升高而增大。
3. influential
助記:influent(流入的)+ ial(關于…的,有…的)→有流入內心的東西→有影響的
釋義:a. 有影響的,有勢力的
舉例:
She is one of the most influential figures in local politics.
她是本地政壇舉足輕重的人物。
4. overflow
助記:over(在…上,超過)+ flow(流動)→在上面流動→溢出
釋義:n. 溢出,超值;v.(使)泛濫,(使)溢出
舉例:
The rivers overflowed their banks.
那些河里的水漫過了河岸。
